Breaking It Down
What Is It?
Also known as e-cigs, vapors, and hookahs, vapes are nicotine-delivery devices that sometimes look like cigarettes but other times are much bigger.
How Does It Work?
When the vaper puffs on the mouthpiece of the cartridge, the battery heats up.
The heat created by the battery turns the e-liquid into an aerosol.
The aerosol is breathed in and out by the user, creating a cloud that looks like cigarette smoke.
Is It Safe?
AEROSOL NOT WATER: Vapes produce an aerosol that can contain nicotine and low-levels of particles and toxins known to cause cancer.

Dangerous: There were 195 incidents of e-cigarette explosions in the U.S. between 2009 and 2016, and nearly 20% of them resulted in severe injuries, meaning an individual was hospitalized or may have suffered third degree burns.

Unregulated: Vapes are still partially unregulated by the government, so we don’t really know what’s in them and there’s no evidence that their emissions are safe to inhale.
